The organizers of Rock N Rad regret to announce that the 2024 event scheduled to be held at Highmark Stadium has been postponed until 2025.

After careful consideration and extensive discussions with our partners and stakeholders, we have decided that postponing the event is in the best interest of our attendees, performers, and staff. This decision allows us to ensure that Rock N Rad 2025 will be an even more unforgettable experience.

We understand the disappointment this may cause and appreciate the ongoing support and understanding from our loyal fans and community. All tickets purchased for the 2024 event will be honored for the rescheduled 2025 date. Alternatively, ticket holders may request a full refund.

PITTSBURGH, PA – The iconic Mazda Miata has been chosen as the featured car for this year's Rock N Rad Show, scheduled to take place on June 15 at Highmark Stadium. The Miata, a symbol of automotive excellence and innovation, has left an indelible mark on the automotive world since its introduction.

The Mazda Miata, first introduced in 1989, has become synonymous with the perfect blend of style, performance, and driving pleasure. Its sleek design and lightweight construction have set a new standard in the world of sports cars. The Miata's introduction marked a turning point, redefining the roadster segment and capturing the hearts of driving enthusiasts globally.

According to ConceptCars.com "The Mazda Miata was patterned after the Lotus Elan of the 1960s. It was conceived in the United States at Mazda's design headquarters in California and built in Japan. It made its first debut at the February 1989 Chicago Auto Show where it was an immediate success. It drew thousands of onlookers eager to pay the $13,800 sticker price. 

Powering the MX-5 Miata was a four-cylinder dual-overhead-cam engine offering 116 horsepower. It had a fully independent suspension with dual wishbones, coil springs, and anti-roll bars. At all four corners were disc brakes."

Cars from the 1980's & 90's are becoming the next hot market said Ken Ahn from Broad Arrow Group

At today's Media Briefing for The Amelia Concours, Kenneth Ahn, teh President of Hagerty Marketpalce's Broad Arrow Group talked about their inaugural auction at The Amelia Concours.  

One of the most noteworthy things he brought up was hot hot Rad Era Cars are starting to be at auction.  Broad Arrow Group has 28 Rad cars open for bid. 

The time has come kids.  Scoop up that Rad cars you always wanted before you need to start pulling them from the barns and junkyards!

For starters, Gates open at 11am for parking tor Pre- registered cars ONLY . Pre-Registered vehicles will get are some of the prime parking locations for the show, the concert, AND exiting after the concert!  

Here's some other things that the early birds are going to get!

For anyone driving up for on-site registration, the gates will open at NOON for parking NON-Preregistered Show Cars for parking.  That means that if you have not registered by Wednesday August 25th at midnight, you will not get a t-shirt

There is perhaps nothing more iconic of the rad era than the DMC DeLorean!

Back in May 2021, the The Historic Vehicle Association (HVA) announced the newest car to hitch its National Historic Vehicle Register, an inventory and collection of documentation of historically significant automobiles. which car is that the instantly recognizable DeLorean DMC-12 time machine from the well-known sci-fi movie “Back to the Future”. 

Because of Covid, our inaugural event was delayed by more than a year, so all of these things: The HVA designation, the DeLorean "screaming" and 80's & 90s vibe and us getting "back the the future" is why we are featuring special DeLorean display smack dab in the center of Rock N Rad 2021!

We've been asked what qualifies as a Rock N Rad era Car?  Does it have to be built between January 1, 1980 and December 31 1999.

No.

Emphatically, NO.

From the outset our entire team agreed that certain vehicles that where iconic in the 80's actually had their roots in earlier years.  Certain cars that became iconic after the year 2000 where created in the 1990's.

So what qualifies?
If the vehicle model was sold in the 1980's or 1990's an didn't have significant design changes prior to  or after that period, then we would welcome it to Rock N Rad,  The Trans Am Gen 2 shown above was  sold in the early 80's before the Gen 3 was introduced.  The Gen 2 underwent several facelifts and that's where it gets a bit tricky.  Ideally we want 80's and 90's cars in the show but if it's on the edge or the model has not have any significant changes from an earlier or later period, then it is welcome to be in the show.  

So, yea, that '78 TA pictured above is welcome.

All Gen 4 Chevy Malibus that were introduced in 1978 and ran until 1983 are acceptable. A 1977 Mailibu Gen 2 does not qualify for Rock N Rad.  That doesn't mean it's not a cool car, it just means its not the period of car for our show.  

Not to worry though! We will have an adjoining parking area for the other cool cars! We hope that helps you understand what we're looking for.  It's and 80's ~ 90's cars show so we'll like to stick with the theme. We can't wait to see what you bring!!

The Rock N Rad Team in conjunction with Allegheny County Parks is excited to announce that Spin Doctors will be the featured band the evening of August 29 after the Rock N Rad Car show.

Spin Doctors are an American rock band from New York City, best known for their early 1990s hits "Two Princes" and "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong", which peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 7 and No. 17, respectively.

Spin Doctors's debut studio album Pocket Full of Kryptonite was released in August 1991. The band continued to play extensive live shows, gaining grassroots fans, as the album was mostly ignored commercially. In the summer of 1992, the band toured with the first lineup of the H.O.R.D.E. festival, sharing the stage with fellow jam bands Widespread Panic, Blues Traveler, and Phish.

That summer, commercial popularity heated up, as radio and MTV began playing "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and "Two Princes", with the videos directed by filmmaker Rich Murray (who would direct many of the band's videos). The album went Gold in September 1992, and then received another boost in sales after the band's appearance on Saturday Night Live in October 1992.

Additional videos and singles followed for "What Time Is It", "How Could You Want Him (When You Know You Could Have Me?)", and "Jimmy Olsen's Blues". By June 1993, the album went Triple Platinum. 

Ultimately it sold over five million copies in the U.S. and another five million overseas, and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
